The NAPA Trick Truck Award
If school buses nationwide looked this cool kids would be running to the bus stop instead of sprinting away from it. Terry and Sheryl Williams are the bus drivers of this 1932 Ford Bus which took home the NAPA Trick Truck Award at the 6th Mid-Western Nationals in Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 31 – Sept. 2.
The bus’ Matchbox car-like paint job features black and orange glow PPG paint with burnt orange flames. The unique bus is powered by a 454 CID with a Turbo 400 transmission, Blower Shop 871 blower, March Serpentine system and Hot Rod Air in the front and back. Additionally, the bus features Mickey Thompson tires and wheels, a Kicker Audio system and a Smart park rear view parking camera that was actually made out of a gutted motorcycle turn signal.
The Williams’ paid $5,000 for the body and chassis but the current value of the vehicle is placed at $300,000 - $400,000 or as Terry states “a lot of money.”
When they started on the project 14 months ago the bus was totally stripped and deemed a “basket case.” Since then the bus was reconstructed by the Williams’ own shop – Williams Street Rods – with some help from air brusher Charles Armstrong and Terry’s father-in-law, Paul, who was actually born the same year the bus was.
The trip to Kansas City netted the Williams’ a $100 NAPA gift certificate for tools from the on-site NAPA Tool & Equipment tent. In addition to the NAPA gift certificate, they also received:
