The NAPA Trick Truck Award
When it comes to automobiles one size doesn’t fit all. Bob Schutte and his 1940 Ford Pickup is a great example of that.
When buying a car or looking to restore one, most of us only worry about the vehicle’s design or engine. Schutte has to worry about whether he can fit his 6’8” frame inside it and still drive comfortably. There’s no doubt though that the Henniker, NH, resident made a good choice with the pickup as he cruised away from the 16th East Coast Nationals, Sept. 14-16, with the NAPA Trick Truck Award in hand.
A Goodguys member for more than 20 years, Schutte invested two years and approximately $8,500 into the truck and the results are fantastic. The vehicle features burnt copper on copper paint on the outside with real leather seats from a Porsche Cayenne on the inside. Popping the hood reveals a smooth LT1 engine and a 4L60E transmission. The truck is accented with American Racing wheels wrapped in Toyo tires and classic Mercedes-Benz headlights.
The pickup is special to Schutte as his roadster, that was built prior to the pickup, was hauled from show to show. Now he has a vehicle he can actually drive and enjoy. Schutte took full advantage driving it 300 miles to the show.
The trip to Rhinebeck netted Schutte a $100 NAPA gift certificate for tools from the on-site NAPA Tool & Equipment tent. In addition to the NAPA gift certificate, Schutte also received:
