The NAPA Trick Truck Award
15th Lone Star Nationals
Fort Worth, Texas

If you think the weather is hot in Texas then you haven’t witnessed Terry Roberson, of Forney, Texas, and his torch red 1970 Chevy C-10 pickup truck. Despite some heat from the competition, Roberson’s Chevy C-10 was spicy enough to win the NAPA Trick Truck Award at the 15th Lone Star Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas, October 5 – 7.

Roberson describes the truck (nicknamed “Habanero”) as “hotter than hot,” “bad to the bone,” and “just a nasty truck.” Backing up the talk is a 502 big-block engine with 675 horsepower – similar to the NAPA Overhaulin’ truck. The truck is accented with 20” Budnik wheels, Adobe Ultra leather, an Alpine stereo system, and an electric rear window.

Roberson bought the truck from a friend for about $30,000 with the restoration halfway complete. In the past year, Roberson worked with Stoked Out Specialties and the NAPA AUTO PARTS store in Forney, Texas, to finish the truck. In total, Roberson estimates he’s invested $60,000 in the Chevy C-10 but figures its worth at least $80,000.

The Chevy C-10 has won numerous awards inside and outside the Goodguys events and will be featured in Truckin’ magazine in March 2008.

The trip to Fort Worth netted Roberson a $100 NAPA gift certificate for tools from the on-site NAPA Tool & Equipment tent. In addition to the NAPA gift certificate, Roberson also received:

  • Goodguys Rod & Custom Association Award
  • A die-cast model of the NAPA Overhaulin’ Delivery Truck
  • A NAPA hat, t-shirt and grease towel
