The NAPA Trick Truck Award
18th Autumn Get Together
Pleasanton, Calif.

When classic car features meet new school thinking you get a car worthy of awards. Jim Rodriguez’s 1965 Chevy Suburban has that elusive combination, allowing him to capture the NAPA Trick Truck award at the 18th Autumn Get Together in Pleasanton, Calif., November 10 – 11.

Judges lauded the attention to detail in the turquoise and white paint job which was handled by Wild Woman Graphics of Hayward, Calif. Complimenting the paint job are Chevy Rallye wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tires, Billet Specialties steering wheel and valve covers, 2 1/2-inch Flowmaster exhaust, a 1965 Cadillac steering column, 1994 Silverado seats and a Kenwood stereo system.

The Suburban also features a 350 engine with a Turbo 350 transmission, power steering, power windows and brakes, an Air Ride suspension and a Vintage Air A/C system.

The build took Rodriguez and his brother four years to finish. They both used the NAPA AUTO PARTS store in Newark, Calif., for traditional wear parts.

Rodriguez’s Silverado has been featured in Custom Classic Truck, Truck Builder and Goodguys Gazette.

The trip to Pleasanton netted Rodriguez a $100 NAPA gift certificate for tools from the on-site NAPA Tool & Equipment tent. In addition to the NAPA gift certificate, Rodriguez also received:

  • Goodguys Rod & Custom Association Award
  • A die-cast model of the NAPA Overhaulin’ Delivery Truck
  • A NAPA hat, t-shirt and grease towel
